A BroaderWay Foundation was established in 2010 by Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs and is dedicated to offering girls from underserved communities an outlet for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs. The emphasis is on building self-esteem, developing leadership qualities and striving for personal and social achievement.
Camp BroaderWay was A BroaderWay Foundation's inaugural program in 2011. This past summer, Camp BroaderWay welcomed 31 young girls from underserved metro New York communities to a 10-day performing arts camp, run by Idina Menzel and a team of acclaimed professional Broadway artists. Together with this team of professionals, the girls worked hard at creating an original performance inspired by their personal experiences and aspirations. The summer program culminated with the girls enthusiastically performing on a New York City stage in front of proud families and supporters.
In addition to the performing arts, the girls enjoyed swim instruction, tennis lessons, fine arts classes and other traditional camp activities. The entire camp experience provided a positive nurturing environment for the campers to explore new interests, make new friends and appreciate nature.
For Summer 2012 Camp BroaderWay is excited to once again have Jeanine Tesori on board as our Creative Director. Jeanine has written four Tony Award-nominated scores for Broadway, including "Twelfth Night," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Caroline, or Change," and "Shrek the Musical." She has been the recipient of many other awards and has written several movie scores.
